Our Mission
Providing a Better Future for Special Needs Adults in Brownsville
Palmetto is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), located in Brownsville, Texas. Our mission is to provide a future residential community for adults with special needs, expanding their potential and helping them to develop mentally, physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. We will offer life-long learning programs for adults with developmental disabilities, nurturing their abilities, talents, and skills.
A Letter from Our Founder
As parents of a special needs child, our biggest concern is what will happen to our son, Nicholas, when we are gone. Like every parent, we want our child to succeed, be happy, and be loved. In researching for future accommodations for our son, my husband and I kept reading the same storyline - most facilities for individuals with special needs have been started by a parent with the same concerns we have.
Our family was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas. When Nicholas was in school we were surrounded by teachers, administration, and friends who we had gone to school with or met throughout the years. It is because of our deep roots in this community that we decided to begin this journey. We have the resources, the passion and the need. It is for those reasons we believe in our hearts, that with the support of our community, we will succeed!
